In December 2018, Ambrym Volcano in Vanuatu entered a period of heightened activity, with a marked change in summit lava lake activity and felt seismicity, a summit rift eruption, the appearance of cracks along the eastern rift zone, and other obvious deformation (e.g. uplifted beaches).
