In March 2019, GNS Science and Ngāti Tama, in collaboration with Ngāti Mutunga, led a Te Kura Whenua wānanga at Pukearuhe Marae, Urenui, Taranaki. Te Kura Whenua is a community engagement initiative aimed at creating dialogue and sharing knowledge between scientists and Māori communities on geoscience-related topics, such as climate change, geological hazards and geological resources, and Māori perspectives on the whenua.
