Empiric-metaphysical medicine and modern medicine in Africa

This paper looks to the past to refute a mechanistic vision that perpetuates the colonial perceptions of medicine in African societies. African medical practices existed before, during and after colonization, and it is reductive to consider them under the mantle of tradition, which obfuscates the possibility of analysis and comparison.
