First record of Kuhlia sauvagii Regan, 1913 (Perciformes) in Mayotte and Réunion islands, Western Indian Ocean

Kuhlia sauvagii Regan, 1913 was recently resurrected from synonymy with K. rupestris by morphological and meristic analyses. In this study, we sequenced the mitochondrial ND4 gene of these two species and used the results for molecular identifications among batches of Kuhlia. K. sauvagii, previously reported to be endemic in Madagascar, is reported here from Mayotte (Comoros) and Réunion (Mascarenes) islands, enlarging its geographical range in the Western Indian Ocean.
