Quaternary sediments frequently cover the Tertiary, mostly volcanic base of the small Atlantik island of Porto Santo (Madeira Archipelago). Eolianites, i. e. dunes of cross-bedded marine-bioclastic calcarenite, up to 50 m thick, contain land-snails (list V).
