In the Reichenhall basin a late glacial terrace is locally developed, which is related to the ice retreat. This terrace is carved by meanders of the early holocene Saalach. The late holocene starts with a phase of strong erosion. Afterwards the basin was filled up with fluvial fine-grained sediments and peat during the Bronce Age.
