According to the geology of the site and to the pollen analytical findings the Samerberg lake sediments are of Riss/Würmian and Early Würmian age. An excellent agreement exists between the Samerberg series and the long sequences from Grande Pile in northeastern France, Rederstall, Odderade and Kittlitz (all in northern Germany) concerning their climatic history.
