A Quaternary base map, 1 : 500 000, is presented, covering about 25 000 km² of central and northeastern Lower Saxony. The base of the Quaternary has a markedly differentiated relief due to glacial erosion channels (down to 400 m below present mean sea level) cut into the pre-Quaternary surface.
