Several aspects of a tephra layer present in seven loess sections in Hungary and in Czekoslavakia were investigated: grain-size, mafic mineral suites, and chemical composition of bulk samples as well as clinopyroxenes. The tephra is identical in all localities, and the name "Bag Tephra" was given to it. This tephra allows us to propose a new strati-graphical correlation of the investigated loess sections.
