The AMS dating method, the accelerator mass spectometry, provides together with the possible calibration deep into the upper pleistocene new possibilities. A number of samples from southwest German tipper paleolithic multi-level sites, Geissenklösterle and Hohle Fels, have been dated. Important differences as to the previous position of the Aurignacian and Gravettian correspond closely to other new dates in Europe.
