The Rodderberg volcano is the most northerly part of the eastern Eifel volcanic field of Pleistocene age. Its complex genesis is connected with the fluviatile Rhine river sediments and with eolian glacial sediments. The neighbouring rocks of basalt, loess and thermal-influenced loess led to a magnetization comparison of samples of roughly the same age but of different composition and history.
