In free surface flow modelling, interactions between air and water are often neglected. However, considering the shear stresses at the air-water interface leads, on the one hand, to water depths which may be different from those predicted from standard single-phase models and, on the other, to a better identification of unstable flow conditions. In both cases, the differences can be relevant in testing sewer networks, especially when high water depths and flow rates are involved...
