Average and Interval Velocities Derived from First Breaks of Vertical Seismic Profiles at the KTB pilot Hole

A kinematic evaluation of first breaks of the direct P-wave in several VSPs, carried out at the KTB pilot hole in 1988 and 1989, is presented. After picking and correction to vertical traveltime, average and interval velocities were computed. The average velocity increases with depth caused by the successive closing of microcracks under increasing confining pressure.
