The carditid genus Cyclocardia is currently the most diverse genus of the family, including nearly 180 nominal species from a wide stratigraphical (Cretaceous–Recent) and geographical range (Antarctica, South and North America, Europe, Africa, Alaska, Russia, Japan, and New Zealand).
