Zona pellucida (ZP) modules mediate extracellular protein-protein interactions and contribute to important biological processes including syngamy and cellular morphogenesis. While some biomedically-relevant ZP modules are well-studied, little is known about the protein family’s broad-scale diversity and evolution.
