Global change assessments have typically ignored synthetic chemical pollution, despite the rapid increase of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and industrial chemicals in the environment. The paucity of research on the ecological effects of these ‘micropollutants’ undermines our efforts to address the freshwater biodiversity crisis.
