Small Ice Detector, version 2 for HIAPER (SID2H)

SID2H is a single-particle optical forward-scattering particle detection system. It measures the light that cloud particles scatter onto 28-segment photo-multiplier detectors. The sample area is defined by two separate, overlapping optical paths. The timing and 28 scattering amplitudes are recorded for each particle. Real-time software provides temporal estimates of the particle concentration (#/cc) and scattering amplitude. The particle size range is ~2 to 60 um diameter.
