An emerging option for the production of hydrogen from biomass is a two­step process that includes fast pyrolysis of biomass followed by gasification of pyrolysis vapors or liquids (bio­oil). Pyrolysis is used to convert biomass to a liquid that can be transported then converted to hydrogen and carbon dioxide in either centralized or distributed manner.
