Within the general class of agricultural woody residues, orchard stumps play a particular role. In spite of a very important potential contribution for biomass procurement, their management is particularly difficult. Generally tree stumps are comminuted using wood crushers, but such machines are not mobile and result uneconomic to use when the material is not concentrated in great heaps.
