In a cooperative project, GNUT, (2008-2011) the focus was on the availability and suitability of permanent grassland with maximal two cuts per year, its cultivation requirements, and applicability for combustion. Five sites representing typical grassland types in Germany, each under different cultivation schemes, were chosen to examine the quality standards for combustion and related to the quality of straw and wood.
