Biomass Pyrolysis Reactions and Products as Studied by Simultaneous Thermal Analysis Techniques

The slow pyrolysis of cellulose, xylan, lignin and resinous pellets was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TGA), and evolved gases analysis using FTIR spectrometry. A high heating rate, a low sample mass and the use of a higher grain size fraction decreased the charcoal yield of the resinous samples pyrolysis.
