Lignocellulosic materials can be used to produce bioethanol. The enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose is catalyzed by cellulases, a complex system of enzymes that work together synergistically to attack native cellulose releasing glucose and soluble carbohydrates. Generally, these enzymes have low thermal stability and it is quite arduous to recover them from the hydrolyzates for the use in successive batches.
