Enhanced Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation of Olive Stone by Organosolv Delignification

During this research the conversion of olive stones to ethanol was examined. Olive stones in fragments were pretreated at high temperatures by using four different solutions: liquid hot water (LHW), ethanol and water (E&LHW), diluted sulphuric acid (DA) and, finally, ethanol and diluted sulphuric acid (E&DA). LHW and DA pretreatments produced an important depolymerisation of hemicelluloses, but in the pretreated solids remained a considerable quantity of insoluble lignin.
