A new separator was developed to reduce the amount of wastewater discharged from downstream process of a first generation biodiesel fuel production. In the separator, an emulsification/demulsification technique was applied to remove alkali­metal, methanol and glycerol from crude biodiesel fuels produced with alkali (basic) catalyst.
