Efficiency of Solid Basic Catalyst in the Transesterification of Fried Vegetable Oils

CaO, SrO and K3PO4 were employed as solid catalysts (5% w/woil) for biodiesel production via transesterification with methanol. The starting substrate was fried vegetable oil, in order to valorize this residue as biofuel. The effectiveness of the solid catalysts were compared with NaOH (homogeneous catalyst) in terms of FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) yield.
