Generally, the chipping of five years old poplar plantations is carried out in a "static phase". Here the product is taken from piles made earlier by using a hydraulic arm having a gripper that feed the chipping machine. The Engineering Unit of the Agricultural Research Council (CRA-ING) of Monterotondo (Rome, Italy) has developed a self-propelled chipper capable to work in a "dynamic phase", collecting with pick up heads the windrowed biomass and processing it autonomously....
