Detoxification of Steam Exploded Arundo Donax

This work deals with a new method to detoxify steam¬ exploded biomass by stripping the furfural, acetic acid and other volatile molecules before the step of enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation, so optimizing the full process of bioethanol from lignocellulosics. The method consists into submitting the substrate to a steam/hot air stream that takes away the volatile inhibitors, while maintaining the fiber wet, so preventing the hornification phenomenon.
