Co¬firing biomass with coal is becoming increasingly important in power plants as it produces less net CO2 emissions. The use of biomass, however, can result in severe fireside corrosion of heat transfer surfaces and cause unexpected early failures of heat exchangers, which can lead to significant economic penalties.
