Using problematic biomass such as straw in combustion processes requires an ideal match of combustion system and fuel. One of the problems that have to be overcome is poor ash melting behaviour. Sintering of straw ash occurs as low as 600 °C, resulting in agglomeration of ash particles in the furnace.
