Electronic electro-active polymers (EEAPs) are dielectric materials that change their mechanical and electrical properties in response to electric stimulations. These materials have proved to be very promising materials in the development of actuators and sensors. In making actuators and sensors using EEAPs, a thin layer of polymer is placed between two compliant electrodes. In actuator mode, the layer is charged with a sufficient electric potential.
