The Lock-Keeper

University Of Oxford First World War Poetry Digital Archive
Manuscript in pencil in Ivor Gurney's hand. Exists in various drafts. A shorter poem with the same title, inscribed 'To the memory of Edward Thomas', was included in 'War's Embers' (1919). Written while Gurney was a patient at Middlesex War Hospital. Found in a burgundy notebook containing fair copies of poems made by Gurney. It appears to have been compiled primarily in 1918.
