Charles W. Carr stands in hospital uniform. The note on the back records the location is Netley Hospital, Southampton. Charles' daughter Gill Porter explains that this was when "Dad was recovering from being shot in the leg", during the the attack of the 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment on Pond Farm during the battle of Paschendale. He is wearing hospital uniform. However, Mrs Porter clearly remembers her father explaining that "he almost died of blood poisoning...
