John Porter's great uncle (brother of his maternal grandfather) was Serjeant 2110 Edward Ernest Watson, 1/4th (Royal Fusiliers) Bn. London Regiment. He was killed on the Somme on 9th September 1916 and his name is on the Thiepval Memorial. This was his pocket New Testament.
