Brown-rot fungi are rapid holocellulose degraders and are the most predominant degraders of coniferous wood products in North America. Brown-rot fungi degrades wood by both enzymatic (plant biomass degrading carbohydrate active enzymes-CAZymes) and non-enzymatic systems (Fenton’s reaction) mechanisms.
