Impact of a daily probiotic (Lactobacillus casei Shirota) for 12 months on the frequency of diverticulitis episodes: feasibility study in primary care

John Nichols, Peter Williams, Simon De Lusignan, Barbara Engel, Paul Grob & Linda Thomas
A small open label trial in a primary care setting of an over-the-counter probiotic drink given daily for 12 months to patients with diverticular disease with the aim of determining any evidence for benefits and especially the need for a large definitive double blind placebo trial in a primary care setting. This is a feasibility trial and simply helps to define the criteria needed for a proper larger double blind placebo trial.
