The structural instability of inactivated Foot-and-mouth disease virus antigen hinders the development of vaccine industry. The use of an inexpensive, biocompatible formulation to slow down the degradation of antigen would address the problem. Here, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) was showed to be effective in stabilizing 146S and hence determined as basic solution buffer.
