Verhoeff-van Gieson staining on a paraffin-section obtained from a fixed porcine plica venae cavae. Porcine plica venae cavae was fixed overnight in 4% PFA and embedded in paraffin. Staining was performed on a 10 µm thick cross section according to the reference below.Histology revealed elastin fibers in blue-black while collagen is depicted in red. A sandwich-like structure is visible with a superficial elastin network and a core almost devoid of elastin fibers.
