Commercial fishing is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States. A number of factors can either positively or negatively influence fishing vessel safety, such as: fishing vessel safety regulations, characteristics of the vessel (e.g., age, condition, and maintenance), human competency, weather conditions, and fishery regulations.
