Automated tractography using TRACULA for the investigation of white matter tracts in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is not routinely used for clinical investigations of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Here we evaluate whether the automatic tractography tool TRActs Constrained by UnderLying Anatomy (TRACULA) is sensitive enough to detect bilateral scalar metric abnormalities in unilateral TLE. White matter tract analysis of DTI-derived metrics reveals significant differences between subject groups. This tool may provide a sensitive, fast and reproducible assessment of patients’ tracts in clinical settings.
