Gastric duplication cyst with ectopic pancreas in a teenager successfully resected by endoscopic submucosal dissection

Xiaodan Ye, Muqing Wang, Yuanyuan Wang, Daiying Lin & Xiaozhong Wang
Abstract Background Gastric duplication cyst associated with ectopic pancreas is rare and we aimed to alert clinician to this congenital anomaly. Case presentation A 15-year-old girl presented with intermittent vomiting. Gastroscopy showed a submucosal tumor with an approximate diameter of 40 mm in the anterior wall of the gastric antrum. The lesion had a central umbilication and was diagnosed preliminarily as gastric ectopic pancreas with pseudocyst formation on the basis of its appearance. However, computed...

Abstract Background Diverse drug vulnerabilities owing to the Chromatin regulators (CRs) genetic interaction across various cancers, but the identification of CRs genetic interaction remains challenging. Methods In order to provide a global view of the CRs genetic interaction in cancer cells, we developed a method to identify potential drug response-related CRs genetic interactions for specific cancer types by integrating the screen of CRISPR-Cas9 and pharmacogenomic response datasets. Results Totally, 625 drug response-related CRs synthetic lethality...

Interventions to mitigate vaping misinformation: protocol for a scoping review

Navin Kumar, Sam Hampsher, Nathan Walter, Kate Nyhan & Munmun De Choudhury
Abstract Background The impact of misinformation about vapes’ relative harms compared with smoking may lead to increased tobacco-related burden of disease. To date, no systematic efforts have been made to chart interventions that mitigate vaping-related misinformation. We plan to conduct a scoping review that seeks to fill gaps in the current knowledge of interventions that mitigate vaping-related misinformation. Methods A scoping review focusing on interventions that mitigate vaping-related misinformation will be conducted. We will search...

Booster vaccination is required to elicit and maintain COVID-19 vaccine-induced immunity in SIV-infected macaques

Prolonged infection and possible evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in patients living with uncontrolled HIV-1 infection highlight the importance of an effective vaccination regimen, yet the immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines and predictive immune biomarkers have not been well investigated. Herein, we report that the magnitude and persistence of antibody and cell-mediated immunity (CMI) elicited by an Ad5-vectored COVID-19 vaccine are impaired in SIV-infected macaques with high viral loads (> 105 genome copies per ml plasma, SIVhi) but...

Abstract Background To compare the efficacy and safety of follitropin delta in its individualized fixed-dose regimen with follitropin alfa in a conventional adjustable dosing regimen in Chinese women. Methods This was a subgroup analysis of the randomized, multi-center, assessor-blind, non-inferiority trial (GRAPE) including 759 Chinese women (aged 20–40 years) recruited in 16 reproductive medicine clinics in China. Women were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to be treated with either follitropin delta dose based on anti-Müllerian...

To measure the effect of maternal family history of hypertension on preterm birth (PTB) and to identify factors that modified this association. A case-control study was nested in a prospective cohort of the entire pregnant population in Wuhan, China, from 2011 to 2013. Home-visit interviews were scheduled for all PTBs and their controls, to collect extensive information on maternal exposures to behavioral, environmental, and intergenerational risk factors of PTB. The effects of maternal family history...

The symbiotic hydra Hydra viridissima has a stable symbiotic relationship with the green alga Chlorella. This hydra appears to cospeciate with the symbiotic alga, and some strains are known to have strain-specific host/symbiont combinations. To investigate the mechanism of the specificity between host and symbiont, we explored the effect of the removal or exchange of symbionts in two distantly related H. viridissima strains (K10 and M9). In the K10 strain, severe morphological and behavioural changes...

Analysis of dephasing time of plasmonic 1 hybridization modes using a quasi-normal mode method

Lun Wang, Boyu Ji, Yang Xu, peng lang, xiaowei song & Jingquan Lin
Near field coupling between different localized surface plasmon (LSP) modes supported by nanoparticles may result in two hybridization modes, namely bonding and antibonding modes. The antibonding mode is similar to the higher-order mode and has a longer dephasing time; the bonding mode has strong locality and higher near-field enhancement. It makes them very attractive in many applications, such as light-emitting electron sources, solar cells, sensors, etc. Measuring and regulating the LSP dephasing time (lifetime) is...

Deep brain stimulation of the nucleus basalis of Meynert modulates hippocampal–frontoparietal networks in patients with advanced Alzheimer’s disease

Abstract Background Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the nucleus basalis of Meynert (NBM) has shown potential for the treatment of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, there is little evidence of whether NBM-DBS can improve cognitive functioning in patients with advanced AD. In addition, the mechanisms underlying the modulation of brain networks remain unclear. This study was aimed to assess the cognitive function and the resting-state connectivity following NBM-DBS in patients with advanced AD. Methods Eight...
