Sediment routing systems and provenance analysis

Laura Stutenbecker , Hilmar von Eynatten , Luca Caracciolo & Guido Meinhold
The composition of clastic sediments or sedimentary rocks is a result of source area properties, sediment generation and transport processes as well as post-depositional changes. Deciphering the provenance of clastic deposits can therefore provide valuable insights into tectonic, geomorphic, climatic and anthropogenic factors and processes shaping sedimentary systems over different temporal and spatial scales. This session welcomes contributions that investigate (1) the provenance of clastic deposits by analyzing compositional (e.g. mineralogical, geochemical) properties, (2) the...

PRELIM Main Survey (2017)

George Peat
These data were produced by the PRELIM project, funded by Arthritis Research UK/Versus Arthritis. The dataset comprises individual patient data, de-identified, from respondents to a cross-sectional survey of health and care undertaken in 11 general practices in 2017 and sampling two overlapping groups: (i) patients aged 35+ years who consulted for a selected common musculoskeletal condition in the previous 12 months, (ii) a random sample of the registered population (irrespective of consultation) aged 35+ years.

The Chemiluminescent imaging of blood on washed cotton and polyester fabrics

Duwaraga Manoharan
Luminol is a sensitive test used by forensic investigators to detect blood over a large area in crime scenes. When in contact with blood, luminol emits a bright blue light. This reaction, known as chemiluminescence, was utilised in this study to test luminol sensitivity on 60, 100% cotton and 60, 100% polyester swatches measuring 10cm by 10cm. All samples were washed once, twice or thrice with non-biological or biological laundry capsules, air-dried and subsequently sprayed...

Intensity of care and perceived burden among informal caregivers to persons with chronic medical conditions: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Andrea Carboni-Jiménez, Danielle B. Rice, Brooke Levis, Mara Cañedo-Ayala, Mahrukh Imran, Matthew Chiovitti, Andrea Benedetti & Brett D. Thombs
Informal caregivers provide ongoing assistance to a loved one with a health condition. No studies have compared caregiving intensity and perception of burden across chronic medical conditions. Databases were searched from inception through 11 September 2020 to identify studies that included the Level of Care Index or the Zarit Burden Inventory (ZBI) among caregivers for people with chronic diseases. Pooled mean ZBI scores and 95% confidence intervals by medical condition were calculated using a random...

Sudden Transition to Online Learning: an Action Research Study Exploring Foundation Year Students’ Experience at Keele University

Naqash Masood & Laura Hibberts
The COVID-19 pandemic induced closure of the university campuses resulted in forced improvisation and adoption of online learning. Following sudden transition towards exclusive online learning, we needed to know more about students’ experience to identify best online teaching practices. This action research project was aimed to study experiences of the foundation year students in the context of sudden transition to online learning. Virtual focus group meetings were used as a method of data collection. A...

These files contain the lists of CPRD medical and product codes and ICD-10 codes (used in HES APC data) used to define all variables in the paper “Safety of colchicine and NSAID prophylaxis when initiating urate-lowering therapy for gout: propensity score-matched cohort studies in the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink“ by Roddy et al, in press as of 2 March 2023. Code lists are different for the two CPRD datasets GOLD and Aurum and the...

Regional geology: a key for answering questions in geoscience

Guido Meinhold, Jan lonka , Jonas Kley & Heinz-Gerd Röhling
Regional geology is an essential cornerstone of geoscience, encompassing multiple geological disciplines to study important geological features of a region. The size and the borders of each region are usually defined by distinct geological boundaries and by the occurrence of a specific suite of geologic rock strata. Regional geology is used to solve a wide range of questions in geoscience and provides important information in the search for natural resources. This broad session offers the...

Explore trial participants’ and research team members’ perceptions of the impact of the videoconference-based, supportive care program (SPIN-CHAT Program) during early COVID-19 for individuals with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Data were collected cross-sectionally. A social constructivist paradigm was adopted, and one-on-one videoconference-based, semi-structured interviews were conducted with SPIN-CHAT Trial participants and research team members. A hybrid inductive-deductive approach and reflexive thematic analysis were used. Of the 40 SPIN-CHAT Trial participants and 28 research team members approached,...

A clinical pharmacists role in primary general practice

Hiren Patel
Clinical pharmacist leaders are valued by the NHS because they are well educated, demonstrating excellent analytical and evidence-based thinking skills and professional competency. This reliability often stems from seeing the pharmacy team accepting responsibility, understanding the health care environment, demonstrating their effectiveness within primary care by reducing medication errors, improving compliance, and reducing practice spend on medicines thereby having a positive influence on patient care. Working within a General Practice (GP) setting has been a...
