Abstract Background Exploiting cancer metabolism during nutrient availability holds immense potential for the clinical and therapeutic benefits of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Dietary methionine is a metabolic dependence of cancer development, but how the signal transduction integrates methionine status to achieve the physiological demand of cancer cells remains unknown. Methods Low or high levels of dietary methionine was fed to mouse models with patient-derived xenograft or diethyl-nitrosamine induced liver cancer. RNA sequence and metabolomics were...

Multiband tunable exciton-induced transparencies: Exploiting both strong and intermediate coupling in a nanocube-hexagonal-nanoplate heterodimer J-aggregates hybrid

Zhiwei Hu, Ximin Cui, Yang Li, Xiaobo Han & huatian hu
Understanding and mastering the light-light and light-matter interactions in coupled structures have become a significant subject, as it provides versatile tools for manipulating light in both classical and quantum regimes. Mimicking quantum interference effects in pure photonic nanostructures, from weak Fano dip to intense electromagnetically induced transparency, usually requires strong asymmetries in complex geometries and larger interactions between resonances, i.e., in the intermediate coupling regime. Here, we numerically demonstrate a simple and chemically feasible plasmonic...

METTL3-mediated long non-coding RNA MIR99AHG methylation targets miR-4660 to promote bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell osteogenic differentiation

Lintao Li, Beiyue Wang, Xing Zhou, Hao Ding, Chang Sun, Yicun Wang, Fan Zhang & Jianning Zhao
Whether long non-coding RNA Mir-99a-Let-7c Cluster Host Gene (LncRNA MIR99AHG) is involved in osteoporosis (OP) remains vague, so we hereby center on its implication. Old C57BL/6J mice were injected with the silencing lentivirus of MIR99AHG and subjected to microCT analysis and immunohistochemistry on osteogenic cells. The osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) with or without transfection was determined by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Alizarin Red S staining. Total N(6)-methyladenosine (m6A) on the...

Abstract Background Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are capable of automatically detecting contouring boundaries in medical images. However, the algorithms impact on clinical practice of cervical cancer are unclear. We aimed to develop an AI-assisted system for automatic contouring of the clinical target volume (CTV) and organs-at-risk (OARs) in cervical cancer radiotherapy and conduct clinical-based observations. Methods We first retrospectively collected data of 203 patients with cervical cancer from West China Hospital. The proposed method named...

Realization of all-optical higher-order spatial differentiators based on cascaded operations

yichang Shou, Yan Wang, Lili Miao, Shizhen Chen & Hailu Luo
Cascaded operations play an important role in traditional electronic computing systems for the realization of advanced strategies. Here, we introduce the idea of cascaded operations into all-optical spatial analog computing. The single function of the first-order operation is difficult to meet the requirements of practical applications in image recognition. The all-optical second-order spatial differentiators are implemented by cascading two first-order differential operation units, and the image edge detection of amplitude and phase objects are demonstrated....

Unsociability and Psychological and School Adjustment in Chinese Children: The Moderating Effects of Peer Group Cultural Orientations

Siman Zhao, Mengting Liu, Xinyin Chen, Dan Li, Junsheng Liu & Shihong Liu
This study examined the moderating effects of cultural orientations of peer groups on the relations between unsociability and psychological and school adjustment in Chinese children. Participants included 1,092 students (527 boys, M age = 12.21 years) in the sixth grade in elementary schools. Data on individualistic and collectivistic cultural orientations, unsociability, and adjustment were obtained from multiple sources including peer nominations, teacher ratings, self-reports, and school records. Using the Social Cognitive Map method, 193 peer...

Motor neuron survival is associated with reduced neuroinflammation and increased autophagy after brachial plexus avulsion injury in aldose reductase-deficient mice

Ke Zhong, Yu Huang, Prince last Mudenda Zilundu, Yaqiong Wang, Yingying Zhou, Guangyin Yu, Rao Fu, Sookja Kim Chung, Yamei Tang, Xiao Cheng & Lihua Zhou
Abstract Brachial plexus root avulsion (BPRA) is frequently caused by high-energy trauma including traffic accident and birth trauma, which will induces massive motoneurons (MNs) death as well as loss of motor and sensory function in the upper limb. The death of MNs is attributed to energy deficiency, neuroinflammation and oxidative stress at the injured ventral horn of spinal cord triggered by BPRA injury. It has been reported which aldose reductase (AR), an endogenous enzyme that...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate the generation of a circular polarization detector based on planar polarization holography. The detector is designed by constructing the interference field according to the null reconstruction effect (NRE). We create the multiplexed holograms which feature the combination of two sets of hologram patterns and operate with opposite circular polarization beams. In a few seconds, the exposure operation allows the polarization multiplexed holograms element to be generated, with functionality equivalent to...
