Increased risk of modality failure with higher serum uric acid level in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients: a prospective cohort study

Shuiqing He, Qianqian Xiong, Li Li, Xuechun Lin, Jing Zhao, Xiaolei Guo, Yuqin He, Wangqun Liang, Chenjiang Ying & Xuezhi Zuo
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is one of the most important kidney replacement therapies for patients with end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). PD technique failure can lead to an escalated cost and increased infectious and cardiovascular risk, up and including to death. The accumulation of uric acid (UA) was associated with adverse outcomes in ESKD patients. However, the relationship between serum UA and technique failure is little explored. Here, a total of 266 continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)...

In this study, a series of naringenin-O-alkylamine derivatives were designed and obtained by introducing an alkylamine fragment into the naringenin skeleton. The in vitro biological activity results revealed that compounds 5f and 7k showed good antioxidant activity with ORAC values of 2.3eq and 1.2eq, respectively. Compounds 5f and 7k were reversible and excellent huAChE inhibitors with IC50 values of 0.91 μM and 0.57 μM, respectively. Moreover, compounds 5f and 7k could inhibit self-induced Aβ1–42 aggregation...

Nano-titanium dioxide exposure and autophagy: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Li Li, Ruoyun Dong, Tao Liu, Yaqian Yang, Hongmei Chang, Xiaojia Meng, Yaxin Deng, Qianqian Wang, Yiman Zhao, Guanling Song & Yunhua Hu
Nano-titanium dioxide (nano-TiO2) is widely used in many aspects of human life. However, there are still inconsistent conclusions about the effects of nano-TiO2 exposure on autophagy. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis were used to reveal whether nano-TiO2 induces dysregulation of autophagy. The results showed that LC3 II, Beclin-1 protein, and LC3 II/LC3 I protein ratio were significantly increased, but p62 protein was insignificantly changed. Subgroup analyses showed that p62 and Beclin-1 protein were increased...

Synthesis, herbicidal activity study, and molecular docking of novel acylthiourea derivatives

Binbin Jiang, Yunlong Chai, Xu He, Yan Wang, Bo Chen, Yang Li & Ranhong Li
A series of new acylthiourea derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The results of preliminary herbicidal activity tests showed that most compounds had good herbicidal activity against Digitaria adscendens and Amaranthus retroflexus, especially for compounds 4b (N-(2-chloro-4-methylsulfonylbenzoyl)-N’-(2-chlorophenyl) thiourea) and 4f (N-(2-chloro-4-methylsulfonylbenzoyl)-N’-(2,3-dichlorophenyl) thiourea). In vivo acetylhydroxylate synthase (AHAS) enzyme activity inhibition tests showed that all compounds had inhibitory activities against the enzyme at a concentration of 100 mg·L−1, with the highest inhibition rate up to 37.05% (compound...

Tailoring Lithium Fluoride Interface for Dendrite-Free Lithium Anode to Prolong the Cyclic Stability of Lithium–Sulfur Pouch Cells

Li Zhang, Yu Jiao, Fan Wang, Mingjie Zhou, Yin Hu, Yichao Yan, Fei Li, Tianyu Lei, Bo Chen & Wei Chen
Abstract Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) cells have been regarded as attractive alternatives to achieve higher energy densities because of their theoretical specific energy far beyond the lithium-ion cells. However, the achieved results of Li–S cells are exaggerating the cycle performance in their pouch formats because the considerable works are based on the coin cells where flood electrolyte and endless Li supply ensure the Li metal with nature structure features, resulting in a negligible effect on cycle performance...

Ultraviolet-to-Infrared Broadband Photodetector and Imaging Application based on Perovskite Single Crystal

Meng Xu, Xinyue Wang, Jiexin Weng, Jingling Shen, Yanbing Hou & Bo Zhang
The organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite CH3NH3PbBr3(MAPbBr3) has been well developed in the X-ray to visible light band due to its superior optoelectronic properties, but this material is rarely studied in the infrared band. In this paper, a UV-NIR broadband optical detector based on MAPbBr3 single crystal is studied, and the response range can reach the near-infrared region. In the visible light band, the optical response of the device is mainly caused by the photoelectric effect; in...

Cholesterol efflux regulator ABCA1 exerts protective role against high shear stress-induced injury of HBMECs via regulating PI3K/Akt/eNOS signaling

Zhe Li, Jia-Nan Li, Qiang Li, Chun Liu, Lin-Hua Zhou, Qi Zhang & Yi Xu
Abstract Background In brain, microvascular endothelial cells are exposed to various forces, including shear stress (SS). However, little is known about the effects of high shear stress (HSS) on human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) and the underlying mechanism. The cholesterol efflux regulator ATP-binding cassette subfamily A member 1 (ABCA1) has been demonstrated to exert protective effect on HBMECs. However, whether ABCA1 is involved in the mechanism underneath the effect of HSS on HBMECs remains...
