Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate whether the combination of Macleaya cordata extract (MCE) and Bacillus could improve the laying performance and health of laying hens better. Methods A total of 360 29-week-old Jingbai laying hens were randomly divided into 4 treatments: control group (basal diet), MCE group (basal diet + MCE), Probiotics Bacillus Compound (PBC) group (basal diet + compound Bacillus), MCE + PBC group (basal diet + MCE + compound Bacillus). The...

Ectopic expression of VyCIPK1 gene, isolated from wild grape Vitis yanshanesis J, X. Chen., confers the tolerance to salt in transgenic tobacco

Ziguo Zhu, Lingmin Dai, Guangxia Chen, Guanghui Yu, Xiujie Li, Zhen Han & Bo Li
Calmodulin-like interacting protein kinases play an important role in plant response to abiotic stresses and development. But the role of the CIPK gene in grapevine is unknown. In this study, VyCIPK1, isolated from the Chinese wild grape V. Yanshanesis, was strongly induced by salt stress. Overexpressing VyCIPK1 could induce AOC and AOS, and result in notably increased jamonate levels in tobacco. Under salt stress, transgenic plants showed higher germination rate, leaf number, and fresh weight...

Preexisting diabetes, serum calcium and D-dimer levels as predictable risk factors for pancreatic necrosis of patients with acute pancreatitis: a retrospective study

Enfu Xue, Qiao Shi, Shouliang Guo, Xiaoyi Zhang, Chengsi Liu, Bin Qian, Xingzhou Guo, Ning Hu, Fang Jiang, Jing Tao & Weixing Wang
Some individuals with acute pancreatitis (AP) suffer from pancreatic necrosis. Diabetes affects the severity of AP, but whether diabetes influences pancreatic necrosis is unclear. This study aims to investigate the clinical characteristics of AP patients with and without diabetes as well as analyze the risk factors of pancreatic necrosis. A total of 625 AP patients participated in the study. Clinical and laboratory data were retrieved. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk...

Magnetically recyclable Cu-BTC@Fe3O4-catalyzed chlorosulfonylation of vinylarenes

Xin Zhang, Liang Wang & Qiaoyong Zhu
A chlorosulfonylation of vinylarenes using magnetic metal–organic framework (MOF) composite Cu-BTC@Fe3O4 (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) as the catalyst has been developed. This protocol features easily accessible starting materials, good functional group compatibility and simple recovery of the catalyst. The recovered catalyst could be reused for at least successive five runs with only a slight decrease in its catalytic activity.

Compound glycyrrhiza oral solution alleviates oxidative stress and inflammation by regulating SRC/MAPK pathway in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Xiaolin Xu, Mulan Huang, Xiaofeng Duan, Hongyu Liu, Wei Zhang & Dan Li
Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) suffer from persistent cough and breathlessness, which can be ameliorated by the Chinese herbal medicine glycyrrhiza. Furthermore, the SRC/MAPK pathway is activated in the process of oxidative stress and inflammation, which afflict COPD progression. Thus, this research aimed at dissecting the mechanism of compound glycyrrhiza oral solution (CGOS) relieving oxidative stress and inflammation in COPD via the SRC/MAPK pathway. After a COPD rat model was established using lipopolysaccharide...

Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease triggered doxorubicin-releasing DNA nanoprism for target therapy

Meng Liang, Na Li, Fei Liu, Nan Zeng, Changyuan Yu & Shuo Li
Drug delivery and triggered release in tumor cells would realize the ultimate goal of precise cancer treatment. An APE1 triggered DNA nanoprism was designed, aiming at the applications of both drug delivery and precise triggered drug release in cancer cell. We demonstrate that the AP-Prism was successfully used as a vehicle based on the intracellular endogenous enzyme APE1 triggered for controlled drug delivery and triggered release. The box like DNA prism was self-assembled by annealing...

Physicochemical properties of dietary protein as predictors for digestibility or releasing percentage of amino acids in monogastrics under in-vitro conditions

Yuan Zhao, Yaru Zhu, Guixin Qin, Li Pan, Hui Sun, Nan Bao, Mostafa Mohamed Hasham & Mohammed Hamdy Farouk
The nutritional values of the protein are related to its amino acid content, and its physicochemical properties. We aimed to determine the relationship between the variation of protein digestibility or the releasing coefficient of amino acids with the physicochemical properties of different feedstuffs. We analysed the secondary protein structure and solubility of 10 protein-rich feed ingredients, including soybean, soybean meal, dehulled soybean meal, fermented soybean meal, distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), feather meal, fish...

DARS-AS1 recruits METTL3/METTL14 to bind and enhance DARS mRNA m6A modification and translation for cytoprotective autophagy in cervical cancer

Miaohua Zhu, Weiwei Shen, Qiming Wang, Xiaoming Zhou, Jiaying Wang, Tingting Wang & Jing Zhang
Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies among females. Cytoprotective autophagy could confer cancer cell tolerance to hypoxic stress, promoting cell survival and adaptation. Aspartyl-tRNA synthetase 1 antisense 1 (DARS-AS1) is an oncogenic long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in various cancers, but how DARS-AS1 regulates cytoprotective autophagy in hypoxic environment in CC remains unclear. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and luciferase reporter assays were conducted to explore the interaction between hypoxia-inducible factor 1 subunit alpha...
