NFATc2-dependent epigenetic downregulation of the TSC2/Beclin-1 pathway is involved in neuropathic pain induced by oxaliplatin

Meng Liu, Jing-Wen Mai, De-Xing Luo, Guan-Xi Liu, Ting Xu, Wen-Jun Xin, Su-Yan Lin & Zhen-Yu Li
Neuropathic pain is a common dose-limiting side effect of oxaliplatin, which hampers the effective treatment of tumors. Here, we found that upregulation of transcription factor NFATc2 decreased the expression of Beclin-1, a critical molecule in autophagy, in the spinal dorsal horn, and contributed to neuropathic pain following oxaliplatin treatment. Meanwhile, manipulating autophagy levels by intrathecal injection of rapamycin (RAPA) or 3-methyladenine (3-MA) differentially altered mechanical allodynia in oxaliplatin-treated or naïve rats. Utilizing chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing (ChIP-seq)...

Study on the working mechanism of fluid loss additive for chlorination titanium blast furnace slag

Ping Zhou, Yuanpeng Wu, Huiting Liu, Ming Li, Weiyuan Xiao, Meng Liu, Jianzhang Hao, Yanming Li & Chengxin Li
The chlorination titanium blast furnace slag belongs to industrial waste, but after grinding, they can be used to prepare cementing fluids to realize the secondary utilization of solid waste resources. As a common additive, fluid loss additives are mostly used in oil well cement systems, and there is still a lot of room for development when applied to chlorination titanium blast furnace slag systems. In this paper, the AMPS/DN-1/DMC/AA tetramer fluid loss additive was synthesized...

Matrine is one of the major alkaloids extracted from Sophora flavescens Ait of the traditional Chinese medicine, was the main chemical ingredient of compounds of Kushen injection. The Matrine is considered as a promising therapeutic agent for curing nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), used either alone or combined with chemotherapeutic agents. In the present study, we focused on the possible roles of Matrine exerted on the self-renewal ability of stem-like cells of the NSCLC group,...

Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. We have previously shown that ferroptosis contributes to neuronal loss in ICH mice. The overload of iron and dysfunction of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4) promote neuronal ferroptosis post-ICH. However, how epigenetic regulatory mechanisms affect the ferroptotic neurons in ICH remains unclear. In the current study, hemin was used to induce ferroptosis in N2A and SK-N-SH neuronal cells to mimic ICH. The...

Genome-wide identification, phylogeny and expression analyses of group III WRKY genes in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

Lijun Dong, Meng Wang, Xue Zhang, Jianfeng Liu & Shuling Zhang
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is an important economic crop, so it is of great significance to analyze its molecular mechanisms of resistance to Verticillium Wilt. The WRKY gene family encodes transcription factors (TFs) involved in plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress. Here, we identified 17 group III WRKY genes in cotton based on the cotton genome project. The phylogenetic relationship and evolutionary of WRKY Group III TFs in Arabidopsis thaliana and G. hirsutum showed that...

Giant enhancement of acoustic and fluorescence emission from an off-axis reflective femtosecond laser filamentation system

Shishi Tao, Bofu Xie, Jiayun Xue, Zhi Zhang, Zhang Nan, Lanjun Guo, Lie Lin, Pengfei Qi, Xing Zhao & Weiwei Liu
Femtosecond laser filamentation propagating tens of meters to several kilometers with high intensity in the atmosphere has been demonstrated as a powerful tool for remote sensing. In contrast to the refractive systems, the reflective optical systems possess a variety of advantages including broad bandwidth, large aperture, light weight and low energy loss. However, astigmatic aberration is inevitably introduced by off-axis reflective mirrors. It can greatly affect the filament quality, which is critical for exciting and...

Validation of the Self-Rating of Biological Rhythm Disorder for Adolescents (SBRDA) Scale by Dim Light Melatonin Onset in Healthy Young Adults

Yang Xie, Xiaoyan Wu, Xingyue Mou, Meng Wang, Shuman Tao, Yuhui Wan & Fangbiao Tao
Understanding the biological rhythms that influence young adult health is vital because the combination of biological changes and a circadian phase delay lead to young adults being at high risk of circadian misalignment. We have previously established a self-rating of biological rhythm disorder for adolescents (SBRDA). However, we did not externally validate the SBRDA against objective measures of biological rhythms such as dim light melatonin onset (DLMO)—the gold standard of the endogenous circadian phase. The...

Nanomedicines in oral cancer: inspiration comes from extracellular vesicles and biomimetic nanoparticles - Supplementary dataset

Yu-Ting Bai, Xue-Qiong Zhang, Xiao-Jie Chen & Gang Zhou
Oral cancer is a common life-threatening malignancy having high mortality and morbidity rates. During the treatment process, individuals unavoidably experience severe side effects. It is essential to develop safer and more effective strategies. Currently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) and biomimetic nanoparticles are nanomedicines with long-term blood circulation and lower off-target toxicity that orchestrate immune responses and accumulate specifically in tumor sites. EVs create a synergetic effect by encapsulating drugs and collaborating with naturally loaded elements in...

Abstract Background Elucidating the phylogenetic relationships within species-rich genera is essential but challenging, especially when lineages are assumed to have been going through radiation events. Mahonia Nutt. (Berberidaceae) is a genus with cosmopolitan distribution, comprising approximately 100 species, two of which are known as Caulis Mahoniae (M. bealei and M. fortunei) with crucial pharmacological significance in Chinese herbal medicine. Mahonia is a taxonomically challenging genus, and intrageneric phylogenetic relationships still need to be explored using...

Abstract Background Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), as important regulators, play important roles in plant growth and development. The expression and epigenetic regulation of lncRNAs remain uncharacterized generally in plant seeds, especially in the transient endosperm of the dicotyledons. Results In this study, we identified 11,840 candidate lncRNAs in 12 day-after-pollination sunflower endosperm by analyzing RNA-seq data. These lncRNAs were evenly distributed in all chromosomes and had specific features that were distinct from mRNAs including tissue-specificity...

Bacterial communities in co-cultured fish intestines and rice field soil irrigated with aquaculture wastewater

Weibing Guan, Kui Li & Kejun Li
Abstract In some regions, integrated rice-fish farms have been developed to balance the needs of aquaculture wastewater discharge and rice field irrigation. In this type of aqua-agriculture system, soil is irrigated with aquaculture wastewater, and intestinal bacteria in cultured fish species likely impact soil bacteria through irrigation. However, little is known about the relationship between soil bacteria and intestinal bacteria in some carp species commonly co-cultured in some Asian regions. Therefore, we co-cultured five carp...
