Data from: Impact of lexical and sentiment factors on the popularity of scientific papers

Julian Sienkiewicz & Eduardo G. Altmann
We investigate how textual properties of scientific papers relate to the number of citations they receive. Our main finding is that correlations are nonlinear and affect differently the most cited and typical papers. For instance, we find that, in most journals, short titles correlate positively with citations only for the most cited papers, whereas for typical papers, the correlation is usually negative. Our analysis of six different factors, calculated both at the title and abstract...

Data from: A tunable refractive index matching medium for live imaging cells, tissues and model organisms

Tobias Boothe, Lennart Hilbert, Michael Heide, Lea Berninger, Wieland B. Huttner, Vasily Zaburdaev, Nadine L. Vastenhouw, Eugene W. Myers, David N. Drechsel & Jochen C. Rink
In light microscopy, refractive index mismatches between media and sample cause spherical aberrations that often limit penetration depth and resolution. Optical clearing techniques can alleviate these mismatches, but they are so far limited to fixed samples. We present Iodixanol as a non-toxic medium supplement that allows refractive index matching in live specimens and thus a substantial improvement of the live-imaging of primary cell cultures, planarians, zebrafish and human cerebral organoids.

Data from: Dynamic curvature regulation accounts for the symmetric and asymmetric beats of Chlamydomonas flagella

Pablo Sartori, Veikko F. Geyer, Andre Scholich, Frank Jülicher & Jonathon Howard
Cilia and flagella are model systems for studying how mechanical forces control morphology. The periodic bending motion of cilia and flagella is thought to arise from mechanical feedback: dynein motors generate sliding forces that bend the flagellum, and bending leads to deformations and stresses, which feed back and regulate the motors. Three alternative feedback mechanisms have been proposed: regulation by the sliding forces, regulation by the curvature of the flagellum, and regulation by the normal...

Neutron study of the topological flux model of hydrogen ions in water ice

The familiarity of water ice means we often overlook its non-trivial character illustrated, for example, by the many snowflake morphologies resulting from disordered combinations of covalent and hydrogen bonds between hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water ice’s most common phase (Ih) that keep the H_2 O molecular character. Using neutron diffraction on the flat-cone diffractometer E2 at BER-II, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, we probe the atomic scale configuration in the Ih phase of water ice to test...

Drosophila wing disc cell morphology in timelapse

Natalie Dye & Marko Popovic
Here we provide measurements of cell morphology in the proliferating Drosophila larval wing disc, specifically the wing disc pouch, as it grows in ex vivo culture. The tables provided here include measurements of cell morphology (area and elongation) at each timepoint in each of 5 wing disc samples. For cell elongation, we report the elongation values for each of its component triangles (formed by connecting the cell to the center of its neighbors). We also...
