It is therefore clear that Jászi’s populism fits not only into the Kulcsár’s framework, but also into the conceptual net created by Mudde, Müller and Pappas, because primarily he spoke about the corrupt elite and the pure people. But we can also say that Jászi and his movement’s character is not the same as todays populist movement’s character. Thus, we should create, and that’s my main suggestion, a new concept of the Central-Easter-European progressive populism:...
Pausing in conversation has several roles from speech planning to managing turn-takings (TTs). However, less is known about the dynamic changes of pauses over time or with regard to the turn-taking system. The frequency and the duration of silent and filled pauses (SPs and FPs) as well as shared silences was analyzed in 20 tryadic Hungarian conversations using dynamic frames (altogether more than 7700 items). Data showed that the frequency of silent and FPs decreased...
The study of the diversity of animal signals on within- and among-species levels is the key to uncover mechanisms that shape the evolution of communication systems. However, the methods used to quantify acoustic diversity (like repertoire size) lack to grasp several aspects of acoustic diversity. Here, we propose a new framework for the study of animal communication, in which we decompose the acoustic diversity with the methodological toolbox from community ecology. We explore how different...

Filled pauses may reveal speech planning or execution problems that result in various positional and temporal patterns in spontaneous utterances. The purpose of this study was to analyze the position of the vocalic FPs, with respect to an adjacent word, in terms of occurrences and their durations produced by young (mean age: 25 years) and elderly (mean age: 76 years) speakers of Hungarian (a total of 32 participants). Elderly speakers produced significan-tly less and longer...
Recording fine-scale movement of ground beetles by two methods: Potentials and methodological pitfallsJana Růžičková & Zoltán Elek
Movement trajectories are usually recorded as a sequence of discrete movement events described by two parameters: step length (distance) and turning angle (bearing). One of the most widespread methods to record the geocoordinates of each step is by a GPS device. Such devices have limited suitability for recording fine movements of species with low dispersal ability including flightless carabid beetles at small spatio-temporal scales. As an alternative, the distance-bearing approach can avoid the measurement error...
The dataset contains data of 17 functional morphological traits measured on 656 individuals from the Asellus aquaticus species complex from six cave and nine surface populations from four countries. The measured traits are covering a wide range of functionalities including locomotion, fecundity and sensing. By including individuals from both sex, and from surface and cave habitats questions concerning troglomorphic adaptation and sexual dimorphism and their interaction can be addressed.
Many vocalizing animals produce the discrete elements of their acoustic signals in a specific sequential order, but we know little about the biological relevance of this ordering. For that, we must characterize the degree by which individuals differ in how they organize their signals sequentially and relate these differences to variation in quality and fitness. In this study, we fulfilled these tasks in male collared flycatchers (Ficedula albicollis). We characterized the sequential order of syllables...
Long-term results of initial seeding, mowing and carbon amendment on the restoration of Pannonian sand grassland on old fieldsYesenia Belén Llumiquinga, Bruna Reis, Nora Saradi, Katalin Török, Katalin Szitár & Melinda Halassy
Cropland abandonment is an opportunity for semi-natural biodiverse ecosystems to develop through spontaneous succession or active restoration. Spontaneous recovery is limited by the dispersal and capacity of species to establish under the given environmental circumstances. This paper provides an evaluation of three restoration techniques to overcome dispersal and environmental limitations based on revisiting an experiment with the aim to restore Pannonian sand grasslands on old fields, 16 years after its start. Treatments were carried out...
The main question of this study is if there are differences in the occurrence of disfluencies of young and old males and females depending on speech task. Frequency and types of disfluencies of 20 young and 20 old speakers were analyzed in three different speech tasks. Results show that speakers’ age has significant effect on the frequency of disfluencies only in males’ speech. There are disfluencies which are more characteristic of old speakers’ speech, and...
