Electron Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron diffusion coefficients calculated from Van Allen Probe observations

Johnathan Ross & Sarah Glauert
Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron (EMIC) wave are important for the losses of ultra-relativistic electrons from the Earth's radiation belts. In this work, statistical EMIC diffusion coefficients are calculated from Van Allen Probe A observations of EMIC waves from the entire mission. The diffusion coefficient calculations include the observed L* and activity dependent distributions in plasma density and wave spectra so that the wave-particle interactions modelled are representative of those in the radiation belts. These diffusion coefficients...

Isis remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) bathymetry data in Marguerite Trough, Antarctica, from James Clark Ross cruise JR157, 2007

Julian Dowdeswell, Robert Larter, Riko Noormets, Gwyn Griffiths & Kelly Hogan
On cruise JR157 the Isis ROV was deployed on 15 dives in the Marguerite Trough area in January and February 2007. Dives 10 and 11 targeted a bedrock channel system on the inner continental shelf to investigate channel incision processes and the history of glaciation in the area. The plan was to map parts of the channel walls and thalweg, and then to use these data to locate the best coring sites within the channel...

Numbers of reads of fungal operational taxonomic units in a soil warming experiment at Mars Oasis in maritime Antarctica from 2007-2012

Marie L Davey & Kevin K Newsham
The datasets consist of three csv files containing: (i) the numbers of DNA reads of 415 operational taxonomic units of fungi in 64 plots of a soil warming experiment sampled in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, (ii) the taxonomic placements of the fungi and (iii) the treatments applied to the plots. The research was funded by an Antarctic Funding Initiative grant from the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NE/D00893X/1), a NERC GW4+ Doctoral Training...

Processed airborne radio-echo sounding data from the IMAFI survey covering the Institute and Moller ice streams and the Patriot Hills, West Antarctica (2010/2011)

Neil Ross, Robert Bingham, Fausto Ferraccioli, Tom Jordan, Anne Le Brocq, David Rippin & Martin Siegert
An airborne radar survey was flown over the Institute and Moller ice streams in the Weddell Sea sector of West Antarctica in the austral summer of 2010/11 as part of the Institute-Moller Antarctic Funding Initiative (IMAFI) project (grant reference number: NE/G013071/1). This project was a NERC Antarctic Funding Initiative (AFI) collaborative project between the British Antarctic Survey and the Universities of Edinburgh, York, Aberdeen and Exeter with the aim to test the hypothesis that the...

Processed airborne radio-echo sounding data from the AGAP survey covering Antarctica's Gamburtsev Province, East Antarctica (2007/2009)

Hugh Corr, Fausto Ferraccioli, Tom Jordan & Carl Robinson
An airborne radar survey was flown as part of the seven nation Antarctica's Gamburtsev Province (AGAP) expedition over the Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains, Dome A, and the interior of East Antarctica during the International Polar Year 2007-2009. Operating from field camps located on either side of Dome A (namely AGAP-N and AGAP-S), we collected ~120,000 km (equivalent to 180,000 km2) of airborne survey data using two Twin Otter aircrafts - one from BAS and one from...
