A decennial review of psychotraumatology: what did we learn and where are we going?
Miranda Olff, Ananda Amstadter, Cherie Armour, Marianne S. Birkeland, Eric Bui, Marylene Cloitre, Anke Ehlers, Julian D. Ford, Talya Greene, Maj Hansen, Ruth Lanius, Neil Roberts, Rita Rosner & Siri Thoresen
On 6 December 2019 we start the 10th year of the European Journal of Psychotraumatogy (EJPT), a full Open Access journal on psychotrauma. This editorial is part of a special issue celebrating the 10 years anniversary of the journal and acknowledging some of our most impactful articles of the past decade. In this editorial the editors present a decennial review of the field addressing a range of topics that are core to both the journal...
Data from: Fine-scale substrate heterogeneity in green roof plant communities: the constraint of size
Amiel Vasl, Bracha Schindler, Gyongyver Kadas & Leon Blaustein
Heterogeneity-diversity relationship (HDR) is commonly shown to be positive in accordance with classic niche processes. However, recent soil-based studies have often found neutral and even negative HDRs. Some of the suggested reasons for this discrepancy include the lack of resemblance between manipulated substrate and natural settings, the treated areas not being large enough to contain species' root span and finally limited-sized plots may not sustain focal species’ populations over time. V egetated green roofs are...
Data from: Has gene expression neofunctionalization in the fire ant antennae contributed to queen discrimination behavior?
Viet-Dai Dang, Amir B. Cohanim, Silvia Fontana, Eyal Privman & John Wang
Queen discrimination behavior in the fire ant Solenopsis invicta maintains its two types of societies: colonies with one (monogyne) or many (polygyne) queens, yet the underlying genetic mechanism is poorly understood. This behavior is controlled by two supergene alleles, SB and Sb, with ~600 genes. Polygyne workers, having either the SB/SB or SB/Sb genotype, accept additional SB/Sb queens into their colonies but kill SB/SB queens. In contrast, monogyne workers, all SB/SB, reject all additional queens...
Data from: Innate ability of goats to sense and avoid ingestion of noxious insects while feeding
Tali S. Berman, Noa Messeri, Tzach A. Glasser & Moshe Inbar
Large mammalian herbivores regularly encounter noxious insects on their food plants. Recent evidence revealed that goats efficiently avoid insect ingestion while feeding, yet it is unknown whether this ability is innate. We experimentally examined the behavioural responses of naïve goat kids to a common insect, the spring-webworm (Ocnogyna loewii). We filmed and analysed the kids’ behaviour while feeding and compared it to the behaviour described in adults. Naïve kids sorted the webworms apart from the...

Assessment of potentially abuse-related events in two phase 3 studies of NKTR-181, a novel opioid analgesic, using the MADDERS® system (Misuse, Abuse, and Diversion Drug Event Reporting System)

Objective: To prospectively evaluate the abuse potential of NKTR-181, a novel opioid analgesic, in two phase 3 clinical trials using a newly developed reporting system: the Misuse, Abuse, and Diversion Drug Event Reporting System (MADDERS®). Methods: SUMMIT-07 was an enriched enrollment randomized withdrawal study that examined the safety and efficacy of NKTR-181 across 12 weeks in opioid-naïve subjects with chronic low back pain. SUMMIT-LTS was a 52 week open-label study in opioid-naïve and experienced subjects...

Data from: Fruit consumption in migratory passerines is limited by water ingestion rather than by body water balance
Adi Domer, Eyal Shochat, Ofer Ovadia & Nir Sapir
Many insectivorous passerines become frugivorous during migration. Because water may facilitate the digestion of dry fruits, some passerines may benefit from staging in stopover sites that offer access to drinking water. In autumn, water consumption by Blackcaps (Sylvia atricapilla) staging in Israel was found to induce a shift from insectivory to frugivory. We tested two alternative hypotheses concerning the mechanism facilitating consumption of the relatively dry fruits which are common in this region: (1) Water...
