Abstract: EURADOS Working Group 2 (WG2) on Harmonization of Individual Monitoring is a network of institutions and individual monitoring services (IMSs), built up over the last 20 years, that aims to promote quality, technical excellence and good practice in Europe. In pursuit of these aims, in 2012 WG2 carried out a survey of IMSs in Europe. The survey was sent to about 170 IMS and included questions on: the use of formal quality assurance (QA)...
ISO/IEC 17025 Guidance for IMS: Suggestions on How to Interpret and Implement the Requirements Including Examples from Accredited LaboratoriesBiljana Petrovic, Henrik Roed, Raul Martín, Ana M. Romero, Panagiotis Askounis, Liam Buchanan, Francesco Rossi, Robert Bernat & Joao G. Alves
Abstract: Individual monitoring of external radiation is an activity usually regulated by national regulatory bodies in most countries. Regulations generally contain technical requirements to be met by the individual monitoring services (IMS), in order to ensure that the measurements are correct and therefore the dosimetry results are reliable. In some countries, the requirements include or even consist of the accreditation of the service according to the standard ISO/IEC 17025: “General requirements for the competence of...
Introduction: On June 30th, 2016, the “First EURADOS Stakeholder Workshop” was held at the Helmholtz Center Munich (HMGU) in Neuherberg, Germany. The workshop was jointly organized by the HMGU and the EURADOS Office in conjunction with the 57thEURADOS Council meeting, which took place on June 29thand July 1st, also at the HMGU. In the frame of the “European Joint Programme for the Integration of Radiation Protection Research”, the CONCERT project funded by the European Commission...
Patient maximum skin dose in interventional procedures in radiology and cardiology: summary of WG 12 activitiesOlivera Ciraj Bjelac, Jérémie Dabin, Jad Farah, Hannu Järvinen, Francoise Malchair, Teemu Siiskonen & Željka Knežević
Abstract: Fluoroscopically guided interventional procedures in radiology (IR) and cardiology (IC) are techniques that have had wide diffusion in the last decades. Scarcely invasive, they reduce most of the risks to patients and the expenses of operating theatres. Nevertheless, prolonged exposures due, for instance, to complicated interventional procedures or inappropriate equipment may result in high doses to both patients and staff members, in particular, with potentially high radiation doses to the skinof a patient. Working...
Visions for Radiation Dosimetry over the Next Two Decades – Strategic Research Agenda of the European Radiation Dosimetry GroupWerner Rühm, Elena Fantuzzi, Roger Harrison, Helmut Schuhmacher, Filip Vanhavere, Joao Alves, Jean-Francois Bottolier-Depois, Paola Fattibene, Željka Knežević, María Antonia Lopez, Sabine Mayer, Saveta Miljanić, Stefan Neumaier, Pawel Olko, Hannes Stadtmann, Rick Tanner & Clemens Woda
Abstract: The European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS) comprises a self-sustainable network of more than 60 European institutions such as reference and research laboratories, dosimetry services and companies, as well as more than 300 scientists active in the field of radiation dosimetry. The aim of the network is to promote research and development and European cooperation in the field of dosimetry of ionizing radiation and its implementation in routine practice, in order to contribute to compatibility...
Abstract: This report describes dosimetry techniques used by EURADOS Working Group 9 (Radiation Dosimetry in Radiotherapy) to measure out-of -field doses for use in radiotherapy. Several passive dosimeter types were used, based on the physical principles of thermoluminescence (TLD), optically simulated luminescence (OSL) and radiophotoluminescence (RPL), in addition to an ionization chamber used as a reference standard. Superheated drop, bubble damage and track etch detectors were used specifically for neutron measurements. In this report, doses...
